Tata Sky Launches First 4K STB In India For Rs 6400

Tata Sky has upped the ante in the Indian DTH scene by launching its first 4K set top box. The company had announced and demoed its 4K STB with live 4K stream of France vs Germany World Cup 2014 quarter final match in July last year. The company has finally launched it this year and is advertising it as just in time for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, although it has nowhere been announced that the shooting will use 4K cameras during this sporting extravaganza.

The new generation STB will delivery videos at 4K resolution, which means 3840x2160 (four times the Full HD resolution). Also, it supports Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound. 4K TV penetration is not at all good in India at their currently exorbitant pricings, although it still will make sense to buy the new STB from the future point of view.

The 4K STB is available for Rs 6400 to new subscribers, while existing subscribers can book it for Rs 5900. In addition to displaying 4K content, this box will also showcase standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) channels. The 4K STBs can be pre-booked through the Tata Sky 24x7 helpline, Tata Sky website, and dealers.
