Amar Chitra Katha App Launched For Microsoft Windows 8 Devices At Comic Con India

If you say that you didn't grow up reading Tinkle and other Amar Chitra Katha comics, you're probably lying. Now the same comics are available on your Windows 8 devices, thanks to the launch of ACK Comics app from the publishers of Amar Chitra Katha. The launch happened aptly at the Comic Con India convention being held at Goregaon, Mumbai. The event started with a small interactive skit where actors dressed as characters from ACK comics (Akbar, Birbal, Rani Lakshmibai, Kalidasa, and Chanakya) interacted with the audience to draw the conclusion that the audience does not recognise them anymore. They then discuss the matter and arrive at a solution that an app would be the best way to reintroduce them to people.

The 14 MB app allows you to view ACK comics in a way that mimics reading the physical versions. Just like the comic-books from yesteryears, the digital variant brings memorable stories and immortal characters from history, mythology, folklore and literature right to the screen of your Windows 8 devices. The comics can be read page-by-page or panel-by-panel. They have been digitally remastered to ensure an optimal viewing experience on the screen. There are three free titles for you to sample and you can then proceed to purchase in-app, over 200 more comics. You can download the app from this URL: http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-in/app/ack-comics/d35b8045-7f57-4d58-a746-7c6598e22d36.

For those of you wondering, a Windows Phone 8 version is being tested and could soon be launched as Vineet Durani, Director of Windows Phone Business Group at Microsoft India, mentioned to me during our conversation. However, it makes better sense to view comics on devices with screens larger than a mobile phone, doesn't it?
