It is not just that TV companies are pushing for 4K TVs; 4K cameras are already being launched in India to get the party ready. Panasonic has launched two professional cameras in India aimed at the media and broadcasting industry. The two variants of the Varicam series are the 35 and HS. Both these cameras sport 4K movie recording. The Varicam 35 features a V-Log gamma covering wide latitude of 14+ stops. It can also record to two different formats and codecs simultaneously with its in-camera colour grading function. The camera also incorporates the new super35mm MOS image sensor capable of handling variable frame rates up to 120 fps. Supported recording formats include 4K and UHD in AVC-Ultra 4K, and 2K and 1080p in AVC-Intra 100.
The Varicam HS, as the name suggests, supports high speed shooting at up to 240 fps at 1080p. This allows the camera to produce very high quality slow motion imagery in high definition. Panasonic states that the two cameras bring improvement in picture quality over its predecessors. The new cameras could be a boon for a wide range of industry professionals including those from movies, commercials, and TV programs.

Ironically, while many manufacturers have launched 4K television models in India, Panasonic still doesn't have any 4K television models for the Indian market, although it has already launched cameras supporting this format. Pricing is yet to be declared, but you should be able to get hold of the camera models from the below locations across the country.

"Panasonic India continues to develop offerings for its customers and the roadmap is to develop synergy within various such offerings from the company, so as to establish a control in the complete category rather than just a particular segment. The introduction of these models defines Panasonic’s strategy to deliver superb image handling ability in multiple formats making it an unparalleled tool for high-end filmmaking, and commercials and episodic production as well as live 4K events."Also speaking at the occasion, Omkar Talwar, Senior Manager (Marketing) – Broadcast, Panasonic India, said,
“Panasonic India is proud to announce the launch of these two VARICAM models as they offer vast improvement in picture quality over the best known previously existing Panasonic broadcast cameras. They provide effective solutions mainly targeting variety of movies, commercials, and TV programs, renowned for its color reproduction, look, and for bringing progressive workflows to the production industry.”In order to accommodate the 4K recording, the cameras use the new high-speed P2 solid-state storage to be able to accommodate the huge data stream due to the extreme bitrate without missing a beat in the form of the expressP2 card. The Varicam series of cameras capture 4K videos or high speed HD images to the expressP2 card at transfer speeds as high as 2.4 Gbps. The expressP2 card (AU-XP0256A) can capture 4K video in 25p mode for up to 72 minutes. It ensures data integrity by means of error correction system that helps recover from failure.
